[The Chosen One]

De meeste mensen hebben nu wel gehoord van Double Fine en misschien ook Wasteland 2 maar ik dacht laat ik maar eens een topicje aanmaken voor alle/andere games. al 100+ Kickstarters gesteund (als je vragen hebt stel ze ) maar voor wie nog niet weet wat het is hier volgt.

Kickstarter - www.kickstarter.com

Een site waar je een project kunt starten (Amerikaanse gegevens nodig) en andere mensen om pledges (donaties) kunt vragen. Zet een doel (Bijv. $10.000) en hou een 'verkooppraatje' en daar tegen zetten ze dan rewards neer welke je krijgt voor bepaalde pledgelevels (10, 20, 100 etc).
Wat erg belangrijk is is dat wanneer een project hun doel NIET haalt ze ook NIKS krijgen. Ze kunnen dus niet met maar 10% er van door gaan en dat gewoon op de bank zetten.

Creditcard - Nodig of niet?

De betalingen worden geregeld door amazon. Met een Amazon account en creditcard kun je dus doneren. Maar ook zonder creditcard kan dit.

Top initiatief, TCO. Ik zat er al laatst aan te denken om zo'n thread te maken, want voor de Schafer's en Fargo's van deze wereld is er wel genoeg animo voor een apart topic, maar dat geldt natuurlijk niet voor elke game. Zelfs niet als de ontwikkelaar al lang in de game-industrie zit.

Zo is er ook een indicatie dat de Tex Murphy reeks als Kickstarter project aanstaande is.

Zelf Auditorum 2, Wasteland 2 en Double Fine adventure gesteund en The Banner Saga zal denk ik ook wel komen (wacht nog even op antwoord van vraag) en Faster Then Light staat op m'n remind en moet ik gewoon nog ff naar kijken.

En er zijn idd geruchten dat enkele bedrijven zelf naar Kickstarter kijken.

Als ze een game met de Infinity-engine gaan maken die de .. essentie van BG gebruikt dan vind ik het best. Maar zout op met het gebruiken van de naam alsjeblieft. Dat zou hooguit een publiciteitsstunt zijn, gezien de serie compleet, volledig af is. Maar dat is helemaal niet nodig voor deze game volgens mij als je je intenties duidelijk maakt. Bij mij zorgt het in ieder geval voor afkeer dat die naam nu valt.

Mja, vandaar dat ik ook in dubio zit. Aan de ene kant werken er ex Bioware devs aan het hele 'enhanced' gebeuren en daarna ook aan BG3 en hebben ze aangegeven dat het allemaal isometrisch blijft, maar daar blijft het dan ook bij.

Bioware had destijds natuurlijk een groot team voor BG2 en een budget wat ze nooit met Kickstarter bij elkaar gaan krijgen. Dus het is wellicht wat (te) ambitieus.

Beter dat er even een goede spacesim gekickstart wordt! Daar blijven de grote publishers toch wel vanaf voorlopig. Freespace 3, Freelancer 2... Laat maar komen!

De reden dat Double Fine en InXile zich richten op 'oude' concepten is niet alleen omdat er een niche is welke hiervoor wil betalen, maar ook omdat het financieí«l haalbaar is. En met een Freespace heb je helaas niet de mogelijkheid om voor een top down 2D aanzicht te kiezen, zoals bijvoorbeeld met Wasteland.

Open Source Freespace 2 engine-gebruiken? Zou een soort leuke meta-laag over zich heen hebben. Hangt er gewoon van af wat je precies met het budget wil doen. Programmeurs en designers kunnen voor een vrij redelijk salaris werken. Het wordt echter een stuk duurder met CGI cutscenes, voices en muziek, omdat je daar externe krachten voor nodig hebt en die zijn niet goedkoop.

Hm, The Banner Saga ook maar gebacked. Wist niet dat daar drie ex-Bioware mensen achter zaten. Ik ga alleen maar projecten ondersteunen waarvan ik weet dat daar bewezen talent achter zit. Hoe interessant bepaalde concepten ook overkomen. Anders wordt het zoiets als op een film festival selecteren op de synopsis. Een kansje dat daar een verrassende parel tussen zit, maar negen van de tien keer valt het hard tegen. Tenzij er natuurlijk duidelijke andere aanleidingen zijn om het te ondersteunen.

Ik vraag me ook af of het straks niet een beetje te hard zal gaan. Heb geen cijfers van de doelgroepen/backers, maar ik heb toch wel het idee dat er een flinke overlap is van de mensen die deze projecten ondersteunen. Als er straks 10 high-profile kickstarter projecten per maand komen gaat er eentje de dupe van worden, zeker als ze veel vragen. Nu is zo'n project al binnen 2 a 3 dagen gefinancierd, maar bij te veel kan er eentje op z'n bek gaan. Mensen hebben ook maar beperkte middelen. Ligt er natuurlijk wel aan hoe sterk iets zich onderscheid.

Maar wie weet zit ik er naast en is de algemene doelgroep veel groter.

Exact! Het lijkt een beetje op die indie-bundles. In het begin waren ze leuk, maar op een gegeven moment waar het er zoveel dat dat je door de bomen het bos niet meer zag.

Precies wat ik zei dus, de film sectie is al enorm groot en daar gaat het ook nog steeds prima.
Films worden nog steeds gefund. En als dat niet gebeurd tja pech, dat weet je van te voren als je een project begint/steunt. Films die worden gesteund winnen vaak later nog prijzen op allerlei festivals dus het loopt nog wel los.

His endlessly hip band, The Scarlet Furies, did the toe-tapping themes in Gray Matter and Dying for Daylight.

Kijk eens hoeveel films er op Kickstarter gefund worden... een paar games die op Kickstarter komen en er wordt moord en brand geschreeuwd.

Sure in de toekomst zullen er wel meer games voorbij komen die NIET gefund worden en dat is ook prima. Iedereen kan een poging doen en hopen dat het lukt.
De goede games, net als films worden meestal wel gefund. Vaak ligt het ook aan de Kickstarter zelf als die slecht opgezet is, weinig updates heeft etc.
