Ik heb me best vermaakt ermee!

10 big changes coming in The Division 2: Warlords of New York

We’re just a few weeks away from celebrating The Division 2’s first birthday, and it’s fair to say a lot has changed over the past twelve months with some major reworks, dollops of fresh content and the series’ first ever raid. But, there’s still plenty to come for this sequel.

That’s right, Ubisoft are getting ready to blow out the candles in style by dropping a major expansion: Warlords of New York. Following this latest announcement, here are 10 big changes coming to The Division 2 in 2020…

    Warlords of New York
When it launches on March 3rd, Warlords of New York will be taking Agents back to New York City or, more specifically, lower Manhattan. This new map will be covered in a fog of war that players able to explore at their own pace without worrying about areas being level gated.

    Commence the manhunt
Main antagonist Aaron Keener has been circling the periphery for a while now. Set eight months after the outbreak, Warlords of New York will have you chasing down the man himself. At his side are four powerful Warlords, each reigning over their own patch of turf. Expect these boss battles to be the most dynamic and exciting The Division 2 has to offer.

    Four new Skills
Taking down one of the Warlords will give you access to their high tech gadgets. This expansion introduces four new Agent skills, complete with mods. While details are a little thin, two of the skills we’ve seen so far include a decoy hologram and stick bomb launcher.

    Familiar Faces
Keener isn’t the only familiar face you’ll encounter while stalking the streets of Manhattan. Agent Faye Lau rejoins the fight as well as Roy Benitez and Paul Rhodes. Fans will be happy to hear that factions from the original Division are still causing mayhem including the Cleaners and Rikers, but Massive promises they’ll pose a threat to players with new “upgraded, mutated versions” among the rank and file grunts.

    Google Stadia
Ubisoft has confirmed that The Division 2 will be making its way to Google Stadia in “late March”. This version of the loot shooter sequel will have the Warlords of New York expansion available from the get go.

    Battle Pass “Seasons”
The Division 2 will soon launch Seasons, yet another spin on the battle pass style progression system. This will work in a similar way to other games such as Fortnite, PUBG, and Modern Warfare, showering Agents with bonus rewards as they complete challenges, level up, and unlock new tiers. Those who pony up the cash for a Season Pass will have access to a premium track on the loot table with even more goodies up for grabs.

    A second Raid
The Foundry is Division 2’s second raid, and fans will be eagerly awaiting more information. It’s due out sometime in the coming months and, according to Massive, will be more challenging and dynamic than Operation Dark Hours. There will be two versions available to test yourself and your team against – one for Agents at level 30 and one for those at level 40.

    Increased level cap
That’s right, The Division 2 will soon have an increased level cap, but only for those who return to NYC. Even after reaching level 40 your Agent will continue to grow with each XP milestone thanks to the implementation of an “infinite” progression system. Instead of receiving gear caches, you’ll get points that can be spent on upgrading core attributes from weapon damage to hazard protection. These SHD points can also be spent on crafting components.

    Loot overhaul
Massive also wants to hone in on those RPG elements that support The Division 2’s core gameplay. RNG and a bloated, often complex loot system are issues the studio is looking to address. The process of gathering and comparing equipment will be vastly streamlined in an upcoming update that will also see so-called god rolls churning out exciting new guns and armour to equip.

    Improved Dark Zone
The Dark Zone is arguably one of the series’ defining features, though it hasn’t seen much action since Ubisoft launched The Division 2. Major upcoming changes will make it far more enticing with better rewards and a focus on player interactions that goes beyond simply killing each other. A new area of the Dark Zone will also be opening with the launch of the Warlords expansion.

    Aanvulling, de moeilijkheidsgraad betekent vooral meer hp voor de tegenstander, niet moeilijkere/meer vijanden. Dit is zo extreem dat je dan dit soort dingen krijgt;

The Division 2's next-gen upgrade is impressive - but something's up with PS5

60fps is transformative but visual effects are missing on the Sony console.

On the face of it, The Division 2's upgrade for next generation consoles should be fairly simple to describe, with wholly predictable results. Similar to titles like God of War and Days Gone, the last-gen codebase is updated with the game aware it's running on new hardware, unlocking the frame-rate in the process. The end result should be a capped 30fps experience now running at 60 frames per second - or close to it - with little or nothing else changed in the process. That's effectively what you're getting on Xbox Series X, but something is definitely amiss with the PS5 build, which is missing important graphics effects - visual features that aren't just present on Xbox consoles, but on PS4 Pro too.

But still, the headline is that all versions now run at 60fps, lifting the 30fps cap from the last-gen experience. It feels vastly smoother of course, transformative for a third person shooter, and there are improvements to loading times too - plus improved texture filtering on Xbox Series consoles. In terms of resolutions, The Division 2 retains the game's impressive temporal reconstruction technique, meaning we had to jump through hoops somewhat to discern actual native pixel counts. Dynamic resolution is in play on all systems, meaning that the 60fps action is delivered with a 900p to 1080p resolution range on Xbox Series S, rising to a 1800p-2160p range on Series X. Meanwhile, PlayStation 5 operates with a much wider range - 1080p is seemingly the lowest recorded resolution, rising to a maximum of 1890p.

Graphics settings on the Xbox consoles look to be a close match to the last-gen Xbox One X, but the move to solid-state storage and improved CPUs boosts the efficiency of the background streaming systems, with texture and geometry pop-in minimised to a certain extent - good stuff! In effect, Xbox Series consoles essentially get the game-changing boost in frame-rate married with additional visual refinements, mostly delivered by the system level back-compat feature set and the raw horsepower of the new hardware.

It's when we look at PlayStation 5 more specifically that the situation takes a turn for the stranger. Whether there are issues in the cross-platform SDK or simply bugs that somehow made it through QA, it's clear that this rendition of the game isn't quite where it should be. Simply put we're seeing a regression in visual features that are present on the Xbox consoles - and crucially, these visual effects are even still present on PS4 Pro, which is running on the same codebase. The most dramatic change is the total omission of volumetric lighting and atmospheric rendering: the fog effect streaming from lamps is removed on PS5, something the Snowdrop engine is famous for showcasing. Smoke haze is missing. Also, interiors lose volumetric lighting. PS5 is now a 60fps game but you're losing a big chunk of the atmosphere and it's hard to believe that this an intentional effect.

Not quite as important to the presentation, but still noteworthy, is the fact that screen-space reflections are also missing on PlayStation 5. Again, they are present on PlayStation 4 Pro and the other systems. In their place you'll only see simple and static cube-map effects - usually just the fallback for reflections when screen-space data isn't available. The final mystery concerns loading times - we get a dramatic improvement on Xbox Series consoles compared to Xbox One X, but curiously, the PS5 lags behind other next-gen machines by a few seconds when loading the same content. It's a bit of a mystery as, usually, the Sony console is on par or at least faster.

The good news is that the 60 frames per second update is well met on all of the systems and perhaps because of its slightly lower resolution and pared back effects, PlayStation 5 sticks most doggedly to its 60fps performance target. Meanwhile, Xbox Series X and Series S consoles appear to drop some frames when there's a lot of transparency effects work on screen. The junior Series S has one third of the overall compute power, responsible for just one quarter of the Series X's target resolution so this does mean that the lower spec box can deliver a more consistent level of performance overall than its bigger brother, but there's not much in it really.

All told, the 60fps experience is excellent and in common with similar next-gen updates, it's hard to go back. It's a simple way to tap into the horsepower of the new machines, but it's also the most potent upgrade Ubisoft could have delivered. If you've upgraded to the new consoles and you own the game, we highly recommend checking it out - but let's hope that Ubisoft can look into the PS5 issues and restore the full range of effects to the game.

Verder mee eens, The Division blijft voor mij altijd tof.

Zeker qua setting. Voledig mee eens.

The Division 2 to get a brand new mode and season re-runs in 2021

Washington D.C. still needs your help

As previously reported, strategic shooter Tom Clancy's The Division 2 is not quite ready to hang up its holsters just yet. While many thought the team at Massive Entertainment was getting ready to sunset the team-based merc shooter, the developer announced that 2021 would see a fresh run of content for the title's dedicated playerbase.

Speaking in a new blog post titled "The Road Ahead", Massive revealed that this year will see a brand new game mode arrive in The Division 2's playlist. While no details were forthcoming, the mode is listed as "entirely new to the franchise." In addition, the team is working on new ways for players to progress their in-game operatives, with hopes of offering more in the way of both variety and viability for The Division 2's builds and classes.

In regards to seasons, The Division 2 will be recycling its previous run of seasons from their starting point going forward. Ergo, the next season (Season 5) will be a re-run of Season 1; Season 6 will be a re-run of Season 2, and so forth. This will at least give newer players the opportunity to bag in-game items and rewards that they may have missed out on first time around. Further Apparel events - such as the recent Resident Evil crossover - are also in the works, so it seems there's still plenty of reason to ensure your squad stays frosty over the coming months.

Massive Entertainment also released an infographic, (which you can check out above), detailing numerous figures and statistics pertaining to The Division 2 and its community. Overall, some 40 million players have battled in Washington D.C. since the game's initial launch back in March 2019. In all, squads have breached a total of 97 million floors and looted an incredible 20 billion items. One particular trooper has single-handedly revived over 27,000 downed agents! A merc's work is never done.
